Romantic comedy fantasy. A naive, innocent girl discovers love in her quest to help others. Director Jean-Pierre Jeunet (The City of Lost Children) weaves his optimistic, whimsical tale through a postcard France, allowing us to eavesdrop on the contrasting lives and perceptions of the wondrous ensemble of characters. A bit surreal, a little sugary and all entertaining. Voted in as one the Top Ten Movies of All Time by ABC viewers of 'At The Movies' with Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton.

French dialogue with English sub-titles.

American Dreamz [M]

The new season of "American Dreamz," the wildly popular television singing contest, has captured the country's attention, as the competition looks to be between a young Midwestern gal (Moore) and a showtunes-loving young man from Orange County (Golzari). An Inconvenient Truth [PG]

Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu presents another mishmash of stories where a single gunshot sends shock waves over a 36 hour period in three continents via four languages. After their nanny Amelia finds herself out back in the US, she has no choice but to take the couple's children with her to a family wedding in Mexico. A sensational and hugely-enjoyable musical on the life and loves of Bobby Darin. Kevin Spacey is astonishing as Darin and in true Nicole style, adds just a putty nose to get the look of Darin exactly right. Amoral and dangerous by turns, this high-school-themed crime drama will see Levitt (and weird Haas, the odd kid in Witness now a gigantic, droopy, scary 25 year old) tangle and deceive to writer/director Johnson's celebrated script.

"a clever, twist-filled whodunit!" (Claudia Puig, USA Today)

Cache ("Hidden") [MA15+]

#1 FRENCH FILM OF 2006! Georges and his family receive video tapes and obscure drawings that suggest that someone is watching them. Casino Royale [M]

They say a definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Until now, that was the case with the James Bond franchise, but Casino Royale does a fine job of staying loyal to the series while presenting an impressive, revamped take on one of cinema's most enduring characters. Immediately after receiving his licence to kill, a green James Bond is assigned to investigate sinister accountant Le Chiffre who is set to take on the world's best in a high-stakes poker game at Montenegro's Casino Royale. The film's best quality is our introduction to an impulsive, younger, bolder and, thus, flawed, James Bond. Witness the evolution of a legend known simply as 007.

The much-anticipated follow-up to the original Clerks has our heroes facing calamity and looking for "new" directions. The original is a cult favourite and the follow-up will soon achieve the same status.

Copying Beethoven [M]

When young Anna Holz (Diane Kruger), a Viennese music student is asked to transcribe scoring notes for the great Ludwig van Beethoven (Harris), she eagerly accepts, despite warnings about his volatile behavior. Devil Wears Prada, The [PG]

Will it be Oscar nomination number 14 for Meryl Streep for her hilariously-bitchy role as senior editing journalist dragon, Miranda Priestly? Anne Hathaway graduates from being a princess to Julie Andrews to a harassed assistant to Streep in her tower of fashionable hell and morphs from dag to delight under her boss' withering gaze. The boyfriend struggles with the transformation but sharp dialogue and razor wit carry the pic across the line. Audiences will still be laughing as the credits roll. Local acting hero, Simon Baker, scores a great spot in this major comedy.

Domino [M]

A trademark Tony Scott film and starring Keira Knightley, Domino presents an entertaining mix of gritty action and a sharp visual style. The film is inspired by the life of Domino Harvey, a former model who rejected her privileged Beverly Hills life to become a bounty hunter.

Gallipoli [M]

Grizzly Man [M]

Timothy Treadwell's death was as sensational as his life. Having presumed he could live safely among the grizzly bears of the Alaskan wilderness, the outdoorsman and author (Among Grizzlies) - along with his partner, Amie Huguenard - was eventually killed and devoured by one of the very animals to whom he had devoted years of study. Werner Herzog relies considerably on Treadwell's own video footage - without resorting to sensationalism - and goes into unexpected emotional frontiers and startling landscapes of the mind. One of Herzog's very compelling films.

Marie Antionette [PG]

Where Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation were elegant in their simplicity, Copolla's third film is a visually-lavish telling of the 18th century legend. Painting Antoinette in a more contemporary light emotionally, the French heroine is caught in a loveless arranged marriage, savage gossip amongst the French aristocracy, and a bloody revolution. It may lack serious depth, but it is a beautifully styled film and never descends into the realm of costume drama.

The scene in the stream with the majestic deer is the clincher. A modern film unlike any other with devastating news footage anchoring our emotions which, ten years after the event, still feel unexpectedly sensitive.

Queer Duck: The Movie [MA]

If you thought Queer Duck on Showtime was over-the-top, you won't believe this all new no holds barred comedy & musical extravaganza. Queer Duck and his fabulous friends Openly Gator, Bi-Polar Bear and Oscar Wild Cat will keep you laughing until it hurts in their outrageously zany, full-length feature debut.

Documentary. Frank Gehry is that rare kind of architect who has garnered both critical acclaim and popular recognition. His designs dramatically blur the line between art and architecture; his sketches and models are the basis for dynamic structures and unpredictable interiors. Gehry's friend, Sydney Pollack, directs this film; akin in nature to Gehry's own impromptu, free-hand style, the two men appear on film together, capturing this shy, elusive artist and illuminating his innovative process--including expansive depictions of Gehry's most important architectural wonders across the globe such as the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown L.A.

Slither [M]

It's rednecks versus zombies in James Gunn's delightfully disgusting comic horror film, in which parasites from outer space invade their hosts. Gunn (who wrote the exuberant "Dawn of the Dead" remake) is a true movie nut, with a tongue-in-cheek approach to horror that aspires to "Tremors" and "Rabid" and injects the genre with his own brand of twisty black humor. The film is equally outrageous and sardonic, and the cast, which includes "Firefly" 's great Nathan Fillion, is more than game (literally). Awful fun.

Winner Palme d'Or - Cannes 2006. In Ireland, 1919, people unite to drive out the squads being shipped from Britain to block Ireland's bid for independence. The deep divisions that ensued resulted in civil war, and brothers and countrymen found themselves on opposing sides.

Wordplay [G]

Spellbound covered spelling-bees. Word Wars revealed competitive Scrabble. Now comes another word-puzzle documentary, this time centering around a bunch of charming characters who live for crossword puzzles. Starting off with the creative geniuses at the New York Times' crossword division, the film roams the US finding devotees who enjoy the black-and-white squares daily. As well as skimming through its practices and colourful history, the real fun begins when we're introduced to those committed men and women at the annual crossword convention in Stamford, Connecticut.

World's Fastest Indian, The [PG]

Charming, true story, about a man whose dream of achieving the fastest bike record takes him to the salt flats of Utah in 1967. The record was beaten and it still stands. Hopkins' endearing portrayal is one of the best of his long career.

Yours Mine and Ours [M]

Based on a true story and co-starring Van Johnson and Tom Bosley, Yours, Mine And Ours keeps the laughs coming in a "clean, wholesome family comedy" (Life). This population explosion occurs when widowed Navy nurse Helen North (Ball) meets handsome Naval officer and widower Frank Beardsley (Fonda). They have much in commontoo much in factshehas eight kids and he has ten, and when they tie the knot, anarchy reigns in the Beardsley-North merger. The opposing camps of step-siblings do all they can to sabotage each other and their parents' union. But, through it all, mother lovingly cares for her "troops," while father patiently coaches his coming-of-age kids in more delicate matters, and resentment soon gives way to respect and something bigger than anyone could have imagined!

Zathura [M]

In Columbia Pictures' heart-racing sci-fi adventure Zathura, two squabbling brothers are propelled into deepest, darkest space while playing a mysterious game they discovered in the basement of theirold house. On their fantastic journey, they are joined by a stranded astronaut and must survive meteor showers, hostile lizard-like aliens, a rocket-propelled robot run amok and an intergalactic spaceship battle. Unless they finish the game and reach the planet Zathura, they could be trapped in outer space forever.

DVD THEFT IS CONTINUING!

Continual losses of the DVDs will place the library facility in jeopardy.

HELP STOP THE BLATANT THIEVING OF YOUR DVDs - If you experience incorrect procedures when taking out discs ensure you advise the hotel staff or QAC. New rules imply that hotel staff must now be held accountable and fill in the DVD register book themselves before handing the book over to you for your signature. Your Rec Club membership card must then be surrendered and placed in the DVD pouch until the borrowed disc is returned after your viewing. If staff do not ask for your card please take their name so that appropriate follow-up action can be initiated by QAC.

How many DVDs may I take out at a time?:

Please note that Qantas Aircrew Club members may take out two (2) DVDs at a time providing two separate enties are made in the DVD register book. This rule applies only to the L.A. library.

Blank DVD cases are now provided for the safe carriage of borrowed discs from the library. Please ensure you are given a protective case from hotel staff member. If not, tell them that this is the procedure so that they know in future - the cases protect the discs and also act as a reminder for crew members to return the DVDs after viewing.

Please Note ...

Never write DVDsx2 when signing out DVDs in the Rec Club register book. Full title of movie MUST be written in the appropriate column so that we can not assume you are responsible for any missing/stolen DVDs.

THE QUEEN

1:48 | Drama | M

Stars: Helen Mirren
Director: Stephen Frears

The UK house of granite gets an emotional earthquake and a very cold shower of scrutiny in a major film of award-winning excellence. Mirren's Best-Actress Oscar is well deserved. The scene in the stream with the majestic deer is the clincher. A modern film unlike any other with devastating news footage anchoring our emotions which, ten years after the event, still feel unexpectedly sensitive. .
